Chinese authorities launched a multi-agency probe into Shaolin Temple and Abbot Shi Yongxin over allegations of embezzlement and other serious misconduct.

Shi Yongxin, also known as 'CEO monk' after he established dozens of companies abroad, headed the Chinese temple known as the birthplace of kung fu.

Chinese authorities are investigating the head of the temple where kung fu was born over alleged embezzlement and other misconduct, the monastery said.

Shi Yongxin earned the nickname "CEO monk" for popularising Shaolin kung fu around the world.
