Hundreds of colleges said they'd encountered disruptions in the financial aid process since the Education Department drastically reduced its staff.

With the Department of Education this month resuming collections on student loans, millions of Americans are at risk of having their wages garnished.

Karin Zilbertstein, a cybersecurity expert and vice president of Guardio, warns borrowers to be careful. "Scams are coming back, because it's a hot topic and everybody's concerned," said Zilbertstein.
