Intense thunderstorms sweeping through the Rio Grande Valley are unleashing unleashed flash floods across multiple counties in Texas late Thursday into Friday, with authorities warning residents to avoid low-lying areas where water catchment and poor drainage are possible.

Severe storms dumped about half a year’s rainfall in two days, leading to flash floods across both sides of the border.

A large section of Texas is set to receive much-needed rainfall as a storm system moves starting Wednesday, but forecasters are warning of the potential for "significant" flooding, particularly south of the Interstate 10 corridor.
