Sea surface temperatures in 2024 broke records and about a quarter of the world’s oceans are experiencing temperatures that qualify as a marine heat wave.

The U.N. Ocean Conference is opening in France as pressure mounts to turn promises into action on protecting the ocean.

"It’s like I’ve been living in my own shadow for a long time," Journey and Sword of the Sea creator Matt Nava said.
