It's the second day of the 2025 hurricane season and forecasters are already tracking a disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean that has a low chance for development, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Atlantic Hurricane Season began yesterday. Most of the Atlantic basin is quiet for now with thick Saharan dust moving across the Atlantic Ocean. However, we are monitoring an area of disorganized showers and storms around the Florida peninsula.

In the Atlantic Basin, which includes storms that form in the Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America (formerly known as Gulf of Mexico), hurricane season lasts from June 1 until Nov. 30. Historically, 97% of all tropical cyclones in the Atlantic will form between those two dates.
