New for 2025 would be a sales tax holiday for the purchase of guns and ammunition and another tax holiday that would reduce the price of boating fuel.

Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez said Wednesday he wants to lower the state's sales-tax rate, trimming revenue by almost $5 billion a year. The Miami Republican told House members he has directed Ways & Means Chairman Wyman Duggan to produce a bill next week that would lower the rate from 6% to 5.25%.

Under Perez’s plan, the state sales tax would be cut from 6% to 5.25%. He couched the move as part of an effort to restrain state government spending. The House budget, due out Friday, will be lower than the current spending plan of $118.6 billion, he said.
