A Stillwater Mine worker was killed in an electrical accident underground Saturday morning on the east side of the platinum mine. The employee was performing routine maintenance at the mine near Nye.

The Stillwater Police Department is investigating after two people were found dead and one was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound Monday morning.

The death is the fourth fatality since 2021 at Sibanye-Stillwater Mine. The mine has been the only location of fatal mining accidents in Montana for several years.

The mine remains shut down as investigators look into the electrical incident that claimed the life of an employee underground.
