After a brief test run, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles began its full schedule in October 1988. The show was a huge hit with audiences across the nation and helped turn the heroes of TMNT into icons.

Peter Renaday, who originated the role of Master Splinter in the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series that marked the franchise’s onscreen debut, has died. He was 89.

The largest, Raphael, is a snapping turtle who has traded in his sais for a pair of tonfas. And in the new “Ninja Turtles” cartoon he will be the team leader. Omar Miller will be voicing Raphael.
