Indiana University sports had a bison mascot for a few years in the 1960s, but it has been without a mascot since.

The bison mascot, which last appeared regularly at IU sporting events in the 1960s, has been the subject of renewed interest in recent years. Students have called for its revival, pointing to the need for a true mascot presence at games, especially as IU football gained national attention last season.

Hoosier the Bison is returning home to Indiana University. On Tuesday, the school announced that Hoosier the Bison, Indiana University's beloved mascot from 1965 to 1969, will be back roaming the sidelines in Bloomington.
