Dust particles can linger in the air for a few hours up to 10 days. When breathed into the lungs, particles may cause or worsen coughing, wheezing, lower respiratory tract infections, lung diseases, and cardiovascular diseases, according to the American Lung Association.

Tuesday marked another day of enduring a dust storm in El Paso, with heavy gusts blowing dust across the city. From the northwest to downtown and through the east side, residents found it impossible to escape the pervasive dust.
