Use electrical tape A simpler, and cheaper fix, is to wrap your frayed cord in electrical tape. Wrap the frayed area first, then wrap outward along the cord a few times to prevent further damage.

It's a relatively simple way to get a custom-sized wrap for your cords without ruining them. Twist- or zip-ties may work, but they generally can't be cut to any length you need like duct tape can.

As useful as duct tape may be, it's just not strong or sturdy enough to withstand the test of time. Now, there's actually something 100 times stronger than duct tape known as FiberFix Repair Wrap!

Then, I have to choose whether to wrap electrical tape around the injured cable or buy a new one from another manufacturer. (Full disclosure: My husband works at an Apple store.
