STATEWIDE — AES Indiana is still working to restore power for thousands of customers. In a Sunday morning update, spokeswoman Claire Rice estimates around 14,500 customers are still dealing with power trouble. Work crews are addressing 1,100 separate job details across the coverage area.

In the metro area, AES Indiana reported 34,241 customers without power as of 1:30 p.m. Saturday. INDIANAPOLIS — Friday night's weather system from Hurricane Helene brought wind gusts peaking in the 50 to nearly 70 mph range and caused significant damage across parts of Indiana.

Friday’s weather system from Hurricane Helene brought damaging winds, the National Weather Service recording a 68-mph gust at the Indianapolis International Airport. Those winds causing significant damage across AES Indiana and Duke Energy’s service areas, over 97 thousand AES Indiana customers lost power.

Thousands of people were without power Friday night after winds and rain from the remnants of Hurricane Helene blasted through the Greater Cincinnati region. Outages peaked at 125,000 customers at the peak of the storm on Friday evening.
