The Oscars 2025 officially rewarded Dune 2, and the wins that came to Denis Villeneuve's excellent sci-fi movie also became a reminder of a big snub.

"Dune: Part Two" featuring Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet received six nominations and was in running for the night's biggest prize – best picture.

The first Dune film won six Oscars, but they were all technical awards too. Both films were nominated for Best Picture, though neither were realistic contenders. Particularly this time around; a sci-fi blockbuster sequel just didn’t feel right.
