Boosted in part by two pivotal Arizona races, Republicans have won a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, helping to cement total GOP control over the federal government’s elected bodies.

Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) won reelection to represent Arizona ’s 1st Congressional District, which includes Scottsdale and parts of Tempe and Phoenix. He won over former Democratic state Rep. Amish Shah with 52% of the vote to Shah’s 48%, with 95% of the vote being counted so far. The Associated Press called the race at 10:03 p.m. Sunday.
