My Best Friend’s Wedding is finally getting a sequel nearly 30 years after the classic rom-com’s 1997 release. Variety reported in July 2025 that Sony Pictures hired Oscar-nominated Past Lives filmmaker Celine Song to write a screenplay for the long-awaited sequel.

Wedding bells may be ringing for Celine Song, who has been tapped to write a sequel to Sony’s My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project is in early development, and at this stage, Song is attached to write, but not direct, and would not necessarily be her next project.
