Edmonton Oilers winger Zach Hyman, checked by the Dallas Stars' Mason Marchment on Tuesday, will have surgery and is expected out for the playoffs.

Zach Hyman, who had surgery on Wednesday to repair an upper-body injury, likely is out for the rest of the playoffs. But defenseman Mattias Ekholm (lower-body injury) is set to make his 2025 postseason debut on Thursday night as the Oilers attempt to close out the Dallas Stars and advance to their second straight Stanley Cup Final.

Zach Hyman has lowered the boom on opponents all spring. The workhorse winger for the Edmonton Oilers by a wide margin led the NHL with 109 playoff hits entering Tuesday night. Hyman found himself on the receiving end early in Game 4 of the NHL’s Western Conference final and it didn’t look good.
