What is the difference between a 351W and 351C?
Feb 13, 2004 · The C was a fine engine, too, but its days are in the dusk of its lifecycle, due mostly to a very short production run. Others are considering breathing new life into the 335-series by building stroker 351M/400 engines, but their larger bellhousing patterns will be unlikely, IMO, to find the level of acceptance that is seen by true small blocks.

Apr 10, 2008 · The 351C oiling issues can be remedied with an external oiling line, and some pipe plugs in key places in the oil passages, after which, the 351C becomes a nice, solid, high rpm motor. The 351W, in contrast, has huge 3" main journals, which are too large to run at high rpm, as all that surface area creates a lot of friction and heat.

Jan 21, 2010 · A 1970 4V 351C makes 300 horsepower at 5400 RPM's. The 351C is a racing bred engine. Throw some cash at it and it will scream. The stock crank will withstand turning at 8k and aftermarket forged cranks can do 10k plus. Just let it breath and it will run away from anything. The valves in a 4V cleveland head are HUGE.

Dec 16, 2008 · The 351W and 351C use the small block bellhousing bolt pattern. The 351M and 400 use the big block bolt pattern. The C4 auto trans, which has a separate bell, can be used, but you'll probably have to go with an aftermarket bell for the big block pattern.

Jan 15, 2003 · We sold Detomaso Pantera's at my Dealership from 1971-74. This was an Italian Sports Car Maker that bought their engines form Ford. Why did they chose to use the Cleveland. If you want some good information on Cleveland engine, visit a Pantera web site. These guys have more information and mods on this engine than anyone.

Oct 23, 2005 · The second link is MY 351c STROKED OUT TO 408 resting comfortably in MY MUSTANG'S engine compartment. It is very obviously a 351c by counting the valve cover bolts, looking at the direct into block upper radiator hose, and the size of the heads.

Feb 7, 2011 · Yes but it will be some work. Any 5 speed that will bolt to the 302 or 5.0 will also bolt to a 351C. The problem is the amount of torque and hp that the Cleveland makes can destroy all but the strongest (most expensive) 5 speeds on the market.

Set the timing to 36 - 38 degrees (use a timing light with a built-in advance) Return the engine to idle an check the timing - that is the maximum timing you can safely set at idle unless you recurve the distributor. Reconnect the vacuum advance.
