Oct 26, 2018 · @gmercer_48083 (Gary) is considering a small, budget wood lathe. He asked about a chuck and probably is not interested in one that weighs more than 100 pounds. Here are my responses: The Harbor Freight lathe looks identical to the Excelsior lathes that I have seen. I know several people who have the Excelsior lathes, and they are all pleased ...

Harbor Freight Lathes Any Good? - Woodworking Talk
Nov 20, 2010 · Buying a low cost lathe Dear Okiebugg, Under normal circumstances, I would agree with your strategy to buy a good product initially. In this case, however, I had no experience as a turner, except watching demonstrations of what looked to be fun. So I bought the Harbor Freight mini-lathe for $200 rather than the Jet for $400.

Oct 15, 2012 · PSI adapter for Harbor Freight Lathe Ray, I just got the adapter and mandrel in from PSI. I enclose 2 pics - one with the setup not moving, and the other with it spinning. Although not a rigorous test, the amount of runout doesn't seem horrible to me (I'm sure others here can tell us more). Everything threads together very smoothly.

How are the Harbor Freight lathes? - Woodworking Talk
Mar 31, 2014 · The reason is that the small lathe has a higher top speed which you need for pen turning and the fixed pulleys on the mini lathe are much smoother running than the Reeves pulleys on the 12 X 33 lathe. Don't even think about the 14 X 40 lathe -- it is the poster child for junk tools. Same goes for the 14 X 41.
Lathe chucks and sizes - Woodworking Talk
Feb 26, 2017 · Just got a new Central Machinery 10X18 wood lathe from Harbor Freight. It's an MT2 taper and looks like the head stock chuck is 1" 8TPI. Can someone confirm this. It may be 7/8 because I took the measurements from o.d. of the threads. I want to purchase a new adjustable chuck and I know they aren't all the same thickness and thread diameter.

Oct 20, 2010 · Long story short, the lathe wasn't on sale but since it was shown that way they did honor the sale price and never skipped a beat when I pulled out the coupon. I did buy the 2 year warranty which covers the lathe from stem to stern for $20 so the final price was $116 after taxes. I have to tell you, this thing is pretty stout for an $87 lathe!
